What you take home after PAYE and UIF

See what lands in your account each month: PAYE on the SARS tables for the year, UIF, and your retirement contributions, from a monthly or annual salary.

Nothing you enter is saved. Rates, tariffs and tax tables come from the published sources we maintain, dated so each result uses the figures in force on the dates you give. Every result shows where its numbers came from.

That amount is

You and your dependants. 0 if none.

Pension, provident or retirement annuity.

A calculation aid, not legal advice. Check the result against the Act, the rules of court and any practice directive of the division before relying on it. If a deadline matters, speak to an attorney.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Which tax tables does it use?
The SARS rates of tax for individuals for the tax year you choose: the seven brackets, the primary, secondary (65 and older) and tertiary (75 and older) rebates, and the medical scheme fees tax credits. The tax year runs from 1 March to the end of February.
How is UIF worked out?
The employee pays 1% of remuneration to the Unemployment Insurance Fund, on earnings up to the monthly ceiling. Above the ceiling the contribution stays at 1% of the ceiling. The employer pays a matching 1%, which does not come off your pay.
Do retirement contributions reduce my tax?
Yes. Contributions to a pension, provident or retirement annuity fund are deductible up to 27.5% of your income, capped at R350 000 a year. Anything above that carries forward to the next year. Enter what you contribute each month.
Why might my payslip differ?
Bonuses, commission, travel allowances, fringe benefits and other deductions change the monthly PAYE, and some employers average PAYE over the year differently. This calculator works on a regular monthly salary.
